Floor System (Base)

At Aztec Enclosures we offer 3 types of floor systems for our sunrooms. Each floor system offers different features to suit the different needs of the client.

Engineered Floor System

The EFS is our top flooring system and required for most 4 season sunrooms.

  • The engineered floor system (EFS) is a factory built structural insulated panel (SIP). It is manufactured by bonding a slab of expanded polystyrene foam between two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB).
  • These panels are engineered for strength and load capacity to meet Ontario Building Code requirements.
  • Panels range in R Value from R26 for a 6-1/2” thick panel to R35 for a 8-1/4” panel.
  • The finished SIP panels are assembled on the job site using 2x6 or 2x8 lumber. This ties the panels together creating a complete floor system.
  • The exposed outer edges are capped with aluminum to protect the wood face from the elements.
  • We then cover the entire top surface of the floor with a waterproofing adhesive vinyl product to ensure that your floor system stays dry during and after construction.
  • The engineered floor system is typically attached to your home at one end while the other is supported on a beam mounted on helical piers.

Standard Floor System

The standard floor system is our least expensive and is recommended for 3 season or screen rooms or for budgetary considerations.

  • The standard floor system is built on the job site.
  • Dimensional lumber (2x6, 2x8, etc) is used to build a code compliant frame.
  • The top surface of the floor system is typically 5/8 plywood.
  • The exposed edges are capped in aluminum to protect the wood face from the elements.
  • A six inch wide strip of waterproofing adhesive vinyl covers all exposed edges.
  • Typically the standard floor system is attached at one end to your home and the other is supported by a beam mounted on helical piers.

Semi Insulated Floor System

The semi insulated floor is a good choice for those looking for some insulating value without the expense of an engineered floor system. The semi insulated floor system can also be used in applications where the engineered floor system can’t be used.

  • The semi insulated floor system is built on the job site.
  • Dimensional lumber (2x6, 2x8, etc) is used to build a code compliant frame.
  • A 2x4 layed flat around the perimeter is installed.
  • High density 1-1/2” styrofoam is installed on top of the frame joists and then 5/8 tongue and groove plywood is installed over the styrofoam.
  • The exposed edges are capped in aluminum to protect the wood face from the elements.
  • A six inch wide strip of waterproofing adhesive vinyl covers all exposed edges.
